History and Information -
The Westside Bompton Campanella Park Piru (CPP) also known as The Nellaz, they are a primarily African American street gang located in Rosewood, an area located to the west side of Compton. Their territory stretches from Rosecrans ave to Compton blvd. The gang's name is named after the Roy Campanella, located in the center of the neighborhood. Most of the Campanella Park Piru strongly rep and claim the 148th set and can be spotted around the Campanella Park. In 1998 a rapper from 148th who went by the name "Mausberg" was putting the Campanella Park Piru in the music industry and was giving the gang a chance to speak out and show love for their neighborhood. Johnny Burns aka "Mausberg" was a highly respected member of the Campanella Park Piru Gang, even though he was a popular rapper on the west side, he was still very active in the streets, on July 4th 2000 Mausberg was shot and killed in a home invasion gone wrong. The Campanella Park Piru are allies of all of the Piru gangs, especially the west side based gangs. The main subsets of the Campanella Park Piru Gang is the 146th, 148th Nellas, 149th, 150th, Lonesss Blocck, Stanford Blocck, and, the Terrace Town Hustlas. The Campanella Park Piru Gang have known outstanding feuds with the Bounty Hunter Bloods, Denver Lane Bloods, Florencia 13, Most Compton Crip Sets, Original Swamps Compton Crips, Compton Varrio sets, Tragniew Park Compton Crips and the Twilight Zone Compton Crips.
Modern Days-
The current day Campanella Park Piru are known to take very clear disses at rival gangs using social media outlets such as releasing songs on YouTube, Instagram captions and back and forth Twitter feuds. The members can be spotted in or around Campanella park sporting Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nations and Philadelphia Phillies attire. Respected members of the gang can be spotted wearing a Maroon bandana (flag) on their right side of their body or commonly around their forehead or neck. Upcoming artists such as YS and Westside Boogie have released songs that have gained a lot of attention such as "YS - Bompton" that reached 600,000 streams on YouTube and "Westside Boogie - Oh My" which hit over 2,800,000 streams. Now the gang uses tactics like "tagging up" spray painting symbols and words onto walls to show their love for the gang, the graffiti can contain letters like "CK" which stands for Crip killa, tagging's like these are known to end with retaliation from the gangs dissed.
Besides social media and graffiti the gang is still very notorious known to not hesitate to shoot first in heated situations and known to be highly entangled with the drug trade in California. In 2009 twelve members from the Campanella Park Piru Gang were arrested in a drug bust that the DEA set up and followed through with, the agency seized 6 kilograms of cocaine, 80 pounds of marijuana, 11 firearms and $860,000 USD in cash.
On May 24, 29 and 30th, 2009, there were 3 shootings within the same section of Compton between the members of Campanella Park Piru and Tragniew Compton Crips, the first shooting occurred on the southeast corner of Rosecrans and Central Avenue, which is claimed by the Campanella Park Piru Gang, the shooting resulted in a resident of Rosecrans ave to be shot and killed on scene, the victim of the shooting was known to have relatives of high ranking in the Campanella Park Piru Gang, the LAPD was quick to investigate and discovered the shooting suspect to be a member of the Tragniew Compton Crips. The second shooting occurred on Caswell Street which is known territory of the Tragniew Crips, 5 victims were standing outside a house when suddenly a male opened fire with a rifle screaming "Campanella Park Did it" the shooting ended in 4 of the 5 victims to be left wounded. The third and final shooting occurred on 151st Street, which is also territory of the Tragniew Compton Crips, the shooting involved 2 suspects and 1 victim, the suspects were identified as members of the Campanella Park Piru Gang. These array of shootings led to 4 arrests of members affiliated on both sides, the suspect of the second shooting was charged with 5 counts of attempted murder and many other firearm charges, the first shooting led to a member of the Tragniew Crips to be charged with 1 count of Murder accompanied by other firearm charges, finally the final shooting led to 2 arrests which charges containing 1 count of attempted murder along with the driver being charged with 1 count of accessory to a crime.
Today -
In current time the Campanella Park Piru Gang are still very entangled with feuds that their fathers and original members started, they are still producing music and racking up thousands of views. They continue to tag up certain spots while selling drugs and toting firearms. The 148th ave subset aka the face of Campanella Park go by the set name "8 Line Nellaz". The other sets already have set names like the "Terrace Town Hustlas" but all sets claim the name and go by "The nellaz".
