Avenue Piru Gang
The Avenue Piru Gang (APG) are predominantly an African-American gang located on the west side of Inglewood, California. The Avenue Pirus are one of the few Blood sets located in Inglewood and are most notable for being the First Piru set located outside of Compton; the normal land of the Pirus. The gang was originally founded in the early 1970s around the area of Crenshaw Boulevard to Van Ness Boulevard around 104th Street and 109th Street. Majority of the gang represents the 104th Street but they also claim the 108th and 109th as their territory. There's a few different cliques formed inside of the gang which include the street names they came from, these cliques are 104 Avenue Pirus, 108 Avenue Pirus, and 109 Avenue Pirus. The Avenue Pirus heavily take on the color burgundy/red which represents mainly what most Pirus originally wear. While in the streets of Inglewood, the Avenue Pirus have formed an alliance "Family Ru Alliance" with the Inglewood Family Gang. They also have other allies within the area which include the Inglewood Neighborhood Pirus, Crenshaw Mafia Gang, Center Park Bloods, and the Weirdos Gangster Bloods. The Avenue Pirus have been feuding with many Crip sets within the area which include the Rolling 90s Neighborhood Crip, 111 Neighborhood Crip, 112 Neighborhood Crip, 115 Neighborhood Crip, 104 Hard Time Hustler Crips, Osage Legend Crips, 102 Budlong Gangster Crips, Imperial Village Crips, Tongan Crip Gang, and 102 Raymond Avenue Crips
Modern Times-
In the early 90s Avenue Piru affiliated rappers Redrum 781, Bloody Mary, and Lil Leak helped form a duet named the Bloods & Crips rap group. This group consisted of different sets of Bloods and Crips around the Los Angeles area. Within the group, they released music together within other gangs in Inglewood. The group released the album, "Bangin' on Wax" which had three singles, Bangin on Wax, Piru Love, and Steady Drippin. In total these singles had the album go gold and sell over 500,000 copies worldwide. Some years later, Bloody Mary lost her life due to a tragic motorcycle accident in Compton.
On December 31st, 2008 around 11am there was a shooting that occurred on East Hardy Street in the city of Inglewood, California. The victim, Clifton Walker, was riding his bicycle through the street when he rode by a male. Clifton stated that he remembers seeing the male, Rayshawn Lewis, remove a black revolver out of a brown paper bag. Rayshawn then shot Clifton three times which caused Clifton to become paralyzed and get one of his legs amputated. Clifton seen Rayshawn, also known as Ray-Ray, in a photo lineup and pointed him out of being the shooter. They later found out that Rayshawn Lewis is a member of the Avenue Piru Gang. Rayshawn is facing 23 years in prison for attempted murder.
On August 2009, a detective testified that Otis Williams, a member of The Avenue Piru Gang, was shot and killed on his parents' porch in Inglewood, California. The shooting took place in the Bloods territory which was roughly about 50 yards away from the rival 111 Neighborhood Crips. The detective stated that there has been multiple shootings and deaths between the two dated all the way back since 1988.
Now-
The Avenue Piru Gang are around in the streets of Inglewood. They collectively do different things such as tagging up oppositions walls, selling drugs, or anything that helps the gang strive. The cliques in the gang no longer go by
their street names.
The 104 Avenue Pirus which is the largest clique in the gang now go by the Wess Side All Stars, Members that are in this clique are generally familiar with their environment, and are the popular faces around the hood. These members are quite familiar with the area and have grown up in the neighborhood. This clique generally wears Anaheim Angels hats.
The 108 Avenue Pirus go by the name Prime Time Hitmakers, The members of this clique are seen to be the face of the Hood and those that are high power around the hood. These are also individuals that strive for the good of the hood. This clique generally wears the Philadelphia Phillies hats.
The 109 Avenue Pirus go by the name Avenue Babies, This clique is generally the new faces around the hood. These members seem to be quite young in age and will do anything just to be popular to the hood. These individuals are also seen to want to strive for an higher reputation in the gang. These members generally wear Boston Red Sox hats.
